I grew up in a small town in South Alabama. My early years were spent, nose-buried in MySpace HTML and (questionably acquired) Photoshop. As a kid, I was always told to color inside the lines, don’t make a fuss, and keep quiet unless spoken to. That’s super boring though. And it didn’t last very long. Sorry, Mom and Dad.

Graphic and web design has long been a part of my life. I have dabbled in a lot of adjacent fields and working for myself as an esthetician, all my loves finally came together harmoniously. I need to be able to work from home and I know exactly what other service providers need in a website. This led me to pursue a certification in UX/UI Design from the University of Oregon.

And then the tech industry fell apart. The tech industry has always been volatile, but 2023 showed MASS layoffs of senior-level and long-tenured employees. UX/UI design job hiring halted and the promising career I saw before me started to slip away.

In April 2024, I told myself to figure it the f*ck out and took a leap of faith, launching Marmalade Studio. I made a career for myself once before, I’ll do it again. I know my purpose is in creative web design and I want nothing more than to serve the industries near and dear to my heart.

At Marmalade Studio, I believe professional doesn't have to mean boring or templated. You are free to define what professional means to you. When you dare to defy the norm, is when you create something truly special.

hi, i’m marci!
