Everything you need to know about Squarespace Templates
Whether you are a current Squarespace user or are looking to get started with a brand-new website, custom templates can elevate your DIY website and make your launch go more smoothly.
Our templates have been designed to feel handcrafted and custom-made, moving outside of the typical template box. We focus on creating a more accessible entry into business and website ownership, without you having to sacrifice functionality, personality, and user experience.
How do templates work?
Since Squarespace doesn’t allow designers to send you a file to download the template, Marmalade’s templates live in my Squarespace account library. This allows us to regularly maintain and update them as Squarespace features change. Whenever you purchase a template, we will hand over access by duplicating our original demo site and transferring account access to you.
Can I install a template on my 7.0 site?
If you’ve been on Squarespace for a while and are still operating on a 7.0 template, it’s unfortunately not possible to implement a 7.1 template over your existing content. It will be easiest for you to start from scratch and transfer your content to your new template site. With the 6-months trial, you’ll have plenty of time to get everything set up without having to take down your existing website.
Do I need to know how to code?
Nope! While some templates will have CSS adjustments or may utilize code blocks—this isn’t really “coding”. At least not in the way most people think of coding (no cyberhacking required). I believe that CSS and Squarespace plug-ins can create a unique and enjoyable user experience, but those things are no good if you don’t know how to use them! We’ve included a detailed guide with every template. This means if there is code, you’ll be shown how to update it and where it is. And for good measure, we show you how to remove the code if you no longer want the styling, so long as it won’t affect the functionality of the template.
Okay, but how long is this gonna take to launch?
As far as transfers go, I try to transfer templates within 24 hours on weekdays. If I catch it over the weekend and I am able to, I will go ahead and transfer it then. I am located on the West Coast in PST. If there are any issues or I have trouble getting you access, I will email you to clarify the information provided.
If you’re wondering how long it will take you to get your business up and running, that’s all up to you baby! If you already have assets and copy ready to go, you could realistically get your website up in a day or two. If you have an existing website with a lot of information to transfer over, it might take you longer. If you’re starting from scratch and will also be DIYing your branding, you can expect it to take you at least a couple of weeks. But again, this is largely up to you and your schedule.
Is Squarespace easy to use?
I think so! While every platform has its quirks, I think Squarespace is pretty straightforward. The drag-and-drop editor has really simplified the design process, making it easy for you to update your template and move things around.
They’ve recently added the ability to save sections, making things even easier! Have a fave section? Cool, you can use that wherever you want throughout your website. This means when you need to expand your website to include more content, you can easily stay on brand and build new pages fast.
Squarespace is designed for people with little to no coding knowledge. They avoid using a lot of jargon in their editor and it’s easy to pick up on. I like and recommend Squarespace because it empowers everyone to have their own, creative website.
What if I mess up?
If something tragic happens, don’t worry! I’ll help you get it back. You can also request a one-on-one and I can help you easily update your website over Google Meet.
If you are building a new page or want to make major changes to an existing page, you can duplicate the page so if things go awry—you’ve still got a backup.
What’s included with each template?
I put a lot of time and creative energy into each template, with no templates launching until I feel they meet my standards and provide you with a creative outlet to showcase your stellar brand. Not to toot my own horn or anything, I just really love these templates okay. 🫣
